To start the holidays off right, Shay took a trip over to the Ryerson Theatre to watch the annual Holiday Show! This hilarious family fun show is put on by the Ryerson Theatre School (RTS), featuring some of Ryerson’s most talented actors and dancers. This is just one of many events which occur year round right on campus. (Did you know we also host TIFF in the summer, right in the same theatre? So cool!)
Here are some of the highlights of the 2015 Holiday Show!
While we waited for the show to begin, classic holiday songs were playing in the theatre. Definitely a great way to get in the spirit. We were also given a program which detailed each of the Ryerson students who were involved with the production. I was surprised to see how many of our alumni were in the show! Ryerson is reppin’!
And then the show began..
Narrated by the “Queen” and “King” of some magical kingdom, Act 1 consisted of a variety of clown acts which were all hilarious! You could tell the jokes were aimed towards children and families, but I still caught myself laughing at the talent. We were then taken through a story of “The Night before a Major Winter Holiday”. I thought it wad a great way to incorporate a classic tale for all audiences. The set was beautifully lit and the costumes were on point!
After a brief intermission (including some FREE candy!), Act 2 began..
Snow was falling! Costumes changed! And where did all these dancers come from?! Act 2 was entirely dance skits and they were all amazing! This act featured a lot of our Ryerson Dancers from the RTS program. Each song was a holiday classic, and at one point it seemed as though we had circled through the whole Michael Bublé holiday album! The music and dances left my sprits high, and they really ended the show with a bang!
The RTS Holiday Show is just one of many shows that occur year round in our Ryerson Theatre. It goes to show just how much is going on around campus, and is part of the reason why I’m so proud to be a Ryerson student!
Stay tuned for more Toronto event coverage! 🙂
