Hey people! This week I’d like to highlight my absolute favourite foods offered at the Pitman Hall cafeteria for every meal. After living in residence for almost 7 months, I’m still excited to find out what’s going to be in the caf each day. That’s how much selection we have here! While the options are always varied, I’ve developed some go-to meals that I believe push the Ryerson Food Services over the top… There’s just SO. MUCH. GOODNESS!
BREAKFAST – the yogurt bar
Since I had my first 8 am class this semester and was used to sleeping in, I just recently discovered that there’s a yogurt bar from 8 to 10 every morning! Who knew! This is a great option for a quick boost before your early class. You can get vanilla, strawberry, or raspberry yogurt mixed with as many toppings as you’d like. Berries, mangoes, peaches, granola, nuts, you name it! And I can assure you, it’s VERY delicious. I really can’t get over it. The daily yogurt bar is definitely something to check out!
LUNCH – extreme pita
Almost every day, I have one of the many different kinds of pitas offered at extreme pita in the caf. Also offered in the Hub, this chain has a wide selection of vegetarian and meatatarian options including gyros, chipotle steak, buffalo chicken, tuna, salami, ham, and turkey. For me, the shining star is their shawarma. I’ve honestly never seen a franchised restaurant make such a fantastic shawarma. I literally have to restrain myself from eating one of these for every meal.
DINNER – chicken souvlaki
It doesn’t happen often, but when it’s souvlaki day in the caf, there’s a particular excitement among the students (mostly coming from me). As half of my family is greek, I absolutely LOVE getting a taste of home and my grandparents cooking every once in a while. They offer both chicken and beef souvlaki, tzatziki, rice, potatoes, and greek salad. I’m pretty sure I could have this meal every day and never get sick of it!
So those are my top 3 favourite choices for the Pitman Hall caf. An awesome thing about Ryerson Food Services is that they’re dedicated to continue improving. They let students share ideas on the food and service through surveys and town hall meetings in order to get as much feedback as they can, which I think is really great. I hope you get the chance to try these meals and the many more offered at the other eateries on campus like ILLC, Oakham Cafe, and The Hub!
