Tips for the Winter Semester

The winter semester has started, and for many it can be challenging to get back into the swing of things. At Ryerson the winter semester is one of the best and busiest times of the year, and if you don’t stay on top of everything it can be hard to get the most out of it! Here are a couple tips for the winter semester!

Plan your commute… earlier!

Most of the year commuting is something that becomes a ritual, but when the winter takes full swing you have to rethink your commute. Weather can make commuting unpredictable, and can take longer. So, don’t expect your commute to be the same all winter, and bring lots of work to do so you can make the most of the long travel times!

Put your health first!

The winter brings the inevitability of sickness in many forms. As university students it is easy to overlook the small things we can do day-to-day to keep us healthy, and nothing is worse then getting sick and falling behind. Take your vitamins! Brush your teeth! I sound like a mom, but it is so true. This also applies to your mental well-being too.

Go to events and see what the school has to offer!

The winter semester is kind of magical here at Ryerson because every group and initiative has their big events in these last three months! If you are looking to expand your horizons, or even just want to get involved, there are amazing chances to do that! Go to a conference at Ted Rogers, or see an FCAD year-end show! There is really something for everyone, and you will see the coolest things.

Use this time to plan ahead!

Whether you are a graduating student or someone not even attending Ryerson yet, the winter semester is a great time to plan ahead! Look into running for a student group, apply for those summer jobs, or look for new apartments! This semester flies by at a crazy pace and you need to plan ahead!
