The Best Patios Walking Distance from Ryerson Campus

Let’s face it, attending school in the summer is rough. For Ryerson students, though, studying through the warmer months is easier thanks to the handful of fun patios that we’re surrounded by. With patio season in full effect, we’re rounding up the top patios within walking distance of Ryerson campus.

Note: remember that Ontario’s legal drinking age is 19. Whether or not you can enjoy a drink, patios are a great way to get some sun, hang out with friends and explore what Toronto’s food scene has to offer!

Yonge Street Warehouse (Yonge St.) – 210m from the Quad

Since it opened in 2017, Yonge Street Warehouse has been a hot spot for Ryerson students during all four seasons. Why? First, it’s essentially on campus. It’s that close. Second, their entire food menu is $5.95, making it even more affordable than many of our on-campus food options. In the spring, they open up their cool rooftop patio and students flock in groups to enjoy sangria, sunshine, and (you guessed it!) savings.

Planta Burger (Temperance St.) – 1.0km from the Quad

Planta Burger is another recent addition to the Yonge Street restaurant scene. Located just off of Yonge on tree-lined Temperance Street, Planta Burger is the burger-joint offshoot of popular Yorkville vegan restaurant Planta. In the warmer months, their little front patio is a perfect spot to grab a quiet bite to eat amidst the chaos of downtown.

Jack Astor’s (Dundas St. E) – 290m from the Quad

Jack Astor’s at 10 Dundas Street East has been a longtime favourite of Ryerson students. The restaurant is located on an upper floor of the building so it has all the views, and their all-seasons patio is perfect for an after-class meal or drinks. Extra convenient if you have classes in the Cineplex, since Jack’s is in the same building!

King Taps (King St. W) – 1.4km from the Quad

For a taste of the Financial District that borders Ryerson, check out King Taps on King Street West. Not only is this a popular spot for Ryerson students to work part-time, but they have a stunning patio that is perfect for a mid-afternoon beer or cocktail on a hot day (or mocktail, first years!). Take in the culture of the Financial District and, hey, maybe even squeeze in some networking.

Versus Coffee (Adelaide St. E) – 1.0km from the Quad

So you love a patio, but you’re more of a coffee person than a cocktail person. Don’t worry, Versus Coffee on Adelaide Street East has got you covered. Versus is an aesthetically pleasing cafe widely praised for their coffee, colourful lattes and baked treats. Their mid-sized patio has all of the umbrellas, wifi access and views that you could need to survive a summer study session.

Ram in the Rye (Church St.) – 230m from the Quad

Last is an honourable mention of the Ram in the Rye, our beloved campus pub. Since the main school session goes through the fall and winter, most Ryerson students forget that the Ram has a sprawling patio in the warmer months. It’s almost like a well-kept secret for those studying through the summer.
