My Student Learning Centre Experience

A short while ago the highly anticipated SLC building finally opened its doors to students, giving us a long-awaited glimpse of what the building was all about. The SLC was built to provide students with much needed study and social space that was lacking on our small urban campus, and I can say that its innovative design definitely lives up to the expectations. Since I hadn’t yet seen the whole building, I thought I’d scope out each floor and report on the space’s overall functionality for students! Here’s what I found. ..

When you first walk in, it’s already cool right from the start…

There’s finally a Starbucks on campus (yay!)

And preparation for the official grand opening ceremony!

Once I figured out where I was going…

I went up the elevator to the first themed floor, The Garden

Yes, absolutely EVERYTHING is green, and very stimulating (in a good way).

They also have these cool charging pods in the chairs!

Then, onto The Sun, which is also very bright with a slick red design.

Super cool hallway of study rooms…

But my absolute favourite out of all the floors is The Beach. How relaxing is this…

The 2nd last floor is The Forest…

Which also has really great study rooms like this one, where you can hook up your laptop to the TV, and draw on the full white board wall!

And finally, we have The Sky, which has an amazing top floor view of the city!

While each floor was aesthetically beautiful and unique, what I love most about the SLC is that it’s also very practical. There’s cubicles for individual study, tables and study rooms from group work, and lounging areas for just hanging out. I also found the coolest and comfiest chairs ever (let’s be real this is most important)

I mean, even the stairwells were exciting…

AND, every floor has THIS!!!!!!

(The amount of times I’ve needed to charge my phone on campus and not had a charger is embarrassing) Thankfully, I now have a go-to charging zone when I inevitably forget to bring my charger!

And there you have my little tour of the SLC! I’ll surely be spending most of my time on campus here between classes now that I know it fulfills all of my student needs. Make sure you check out Ryerson’s newest attraction at the corner of Gould and Yonge. See you next time!
