It’s September 2020, and the past few months have been anything but normal… but one thing is back! It’s me, back on WhyRyerson to share my experience as a Ryerson student!
My name is Jenna, and this is my second year as (mainly) a blogger for WhyRyerson. I’m in my second year of the Creative Industries program, focusing on The Business and Practice of News (journalism) and The Music Industry as my modules. I’m loving my program and I’m not going to lie, all summer I looked forward to returning to school in the fall to get my learn back on!
I’m originally from Ottawa, Ontario and spent the summer back home, where I was treated to my mom’s cooking that I desperately missed while I was in residence last year. At the end of August, I moved back to downtown Toronto, and I am already getting tired of cooking for myself.
But what is second-year Jenna really about?
This summer, I got really into hobbies such as cross-stitching, painting and knitting. I cross-stitched Homer Simpson as a gift, and it’s one of my greatest creations to this day. I’m currently knitting a sweater singer Harry Styles wore, and aim to be done by the end of 2020.
I also (still) love to read (for fun)! I was able to read a lot of books this year—52 so far! One of the best books I read this year was The Woman in the Window. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries and thrillers.
Music is still running through my veins, playing in my headphones and my head for a combined 24 hours a day. My favourite songs and artists change regularly, but right now I’m loving the Canadian pop-rock band the Arkells. This semester I’m taking RTA 905: History and Culture of Popular Music, and I’m looking forward to learning more about my favourite thing.
This summer I also got a healthy dose of nostalgia by getting a subscription to Disney+ and rewatching all of my favourite Disney Channel TV shows and movies. Does anyone else agree that the movie Lemonade Mouth is super underrated?
Second-year Jenna isn’t really that different from first-year me, maybe just a little bit wiser and more knowledgeable. I’m stoked to be back on WhyRyerson to share all that I can.
