Cheap Downtown Grocery Stores

We’re all trying to keep costs low, but you shouldn’t be sacrificing your meals! Keep your grocery budget low by doing all your shopping at these cheap (but great!) downtown grocery stores. Some are a little bit farther than others, however even with the cost of a quick TTC ride your savings will still be huge!

Location: 506 Yonge St.

This cozy grocery stop is the closest to campus and is great for both commuters looking to make a quick snack or first-years bringing back some goods to residence. They don’t offer the largest selection of food but who could say no to three for $5 berries all year round?

Location: 393 Dundas St. W

Lucky Moose has a huge selection of groceries, ranging from classic meats to unique spices and foreign candy. Pick up your usual list or try some fun new items to spice up your meals while keeping costs low here.

Location: 93 Front St. E

The world-renowned St. Lawrence Market is a gem you can’t miss. If you’re looking for quality fresh fruits and vegetables without chain-store prices check out the farmers market, open Saturdays 5am-3pm. Try and get there early, this fresh produce is no Toronto secret!

Location: 249 Augusta Avenue

This market isn’t a one stand shop but a whole area, but if you’re trying to give your Uber driver an address see above. Just past Baldwin Village, in between Dundas St. W and College you’ll find the famous Kensington Market. This little nook of town will have every grocery you need at a fraction of the cost.

Location: 89 Gould St.

Nothing is going to beat the location of this one. Located on campus, Metro offers students a 10% discount Tuesday-Thursday, with valid student ID. Although they’re a chain grocery store if you keep your eye on their flyer you can snag some great deals. Bonus: your purchase can go towards some Air Miles!
