5 Tips On How To Get More Sleep

It can be a little challenging to get enough sleep, especially around this time of year! With finals looming nearby and myriad assignment deadlines coming up, bedrest may take a literal reposition. With that in mind, I’ve compiled a short list on how to get a few more hours of sleep. Time to catch up on some Zs!


1) Plan out your day


Sometimes, it really is impossible to do everything you want in one day. Make a list of your priorities and then dedicate time accordingly. A clear and concise timetable will ensure that you make the most out of your 24 hours, while (hopefully) reducing procrastination; just remember to generously allocate those resting hours!


2) Go to bed and wake up at the same time everyday


Your body will thank you for it! Our circadian rhythms, or biologic oscillations, help prepare our bodies for the more strenuous parts of the day. Feel likes its getting easier and easier to wake up early at the same time? Thank your circadian rhythms for that.


3) Read a book before hitting the pillow


Peel your eyes off of that computer, phone, tablet, and TV screen. The amount of light detected by our eyes directly influences the level of melatonin in our bodies, which is an important chemical for our sleep cycles. To fulfill the late-night information crave, grab a book from your favorite series instead!


4) Put down that lateday coffee


Try to avoid any caffeine after 4 PM, as it will really help with catching those Zs in the later half of your day. Plus, its hard to go to sleep when you’re jumping around like our little goat friend above.


5) Take an afternoon nap


Sometimes its really hard to get adequate sleep, not matter what you do! In those cases, an afternoon nap can rejuvenate energy levels and help your body recover from any missed hours of sleep.
