5 Ryerson Student Discounts

Let’s be real, most students are on tight budgets and we ALL love to save a dollar. Big news: your OneCard goes beyond the doors of Ryerson! After a long year of cutting corners on my most wanted and needed purchases, here are my five top places to use your student discount!

1. Food – Metro

Whether you live on res or commute, you’re more than likely to head over to the Metro on Mutual and Gould Streets at some point during the year. If you’re going grocery shopping, make sure to stop in on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with your OneCard to get 10% off your purchase!

2. Electronics – Apple

Buying new electronics can put a real dent in your wallet. Next time you’re splurging on a laptop or new headphones, make sure to shop through the Apple for Higher Education website using your Student ID to get a discount on your purchase. The discount varies from product to product, but you can get up to $300 off of retail price!

3. Retail Shopping – Student Beans (Various Stores)

Student Beans is a service that matches students with discounts from their favourite stores. Currently, you can get discounts from Gymshark, TopShop, Ardene, Frank and Oak, Hunter and more! The discounts are updated frequently and vary from online to in-store deals.

4. Coffee – Good Earth, Page One Cafe

As much as I love to stop into Balzac’s, I have to cut corners somewhere. Page One Coffee, located at Mutual and Gould Streets, as well as Good Earth Coffee at Jarvis and Dundas Streets,  offer a 10% discount to customers who show a valid student ID. Treat yourself to that extra shot of espresso!

5. Transit – GO, TTC, Greyhound, Zipcar

Transit companies know that they can make a pretty penny off of all us students heading home for the weekend or into another city to visit friends… but at least they give us a discount on transit fare.

A post-secondary monthly transit pass for TTC costs $122.45, compared to $151.50 per month for adults.

On the GO train, your fare will depend on the distance you travel. For example, the price for a student to travel from Union Station to Oakville Station (using a Presto Card) is only $7.50, compared to $8.16 for adults or $9.70 for an individual ticket (without Presto).

Zipcar offers discounts for University students and faculty as well as discounted membership rates, and Greyhound provides a 10% discount on regular adult fare.

So what are you waiting for? I know that OneCard is burning a hole in your pocket – don’t forget to bring it with you on your next shopping trip or excursion!
