Top 5 Lunch Places Under $10 Near Ryerson

Admissions Communications team member, Matt, is here to share his favourite spots to eat around the Ryerson community!

Downtown Toronto offers a great selection of food for Ryerson students to chow down on. Unfortunately, between $12.00 hamburgers and $7.00 coffees, restaurants on Yonge Street aren’t always priced with a student budget in mind. To help you fill up your belly without emptying your wallet, here are 5 great places to grab lunch near campus for under $10.

saladkingSalad King

For many Ryerson students and employees, Salad King is an institution. This cafeteria style Thai restaurant has survived the arrival of trendier competition, invasive condo development, and even being burned down! Grab a quick green chicken curry ($9.95) or veggie pad thai ($9.50) with your friends and see how many peppers you can handle!

banhmiboys

Banh Mi Boys

Banh Mi Boys is dangerous. For those unacquainted with the Vietnamese staple, banh mis are baguette sandwiches topped with pickled carrots, cilantro, and cucumber. With options such as kalbi beef ($5.99) and lemongrass tofu ($5.49), you’ll find yourself “treating yourself” to a banh mi –perhaps with a side of sweet potato fries ($2.99) – more often than you plan to.

karines

Karine’s

Hidden away in the Village on the Grange, Karine’s is slightly more west. However, if you’re willing to make the trek westward, you’ll be treated to a cheap all-day breakfast joint with vegan and gluten-free options. Don’t let the fluorescent pink décor scare you away; the French toast and pancake specials (each $5.00) are always served with a smile by Karine herself.

mysticmuffins

Mystic Muffins

A hidden Corktown gem, Mystic Muffin has been serving up Lebanese fare and (if their advertising is to be believed) the best apple cake in the city for over 20 years. Those looking for a quick lunch can grab a falafel ($5.00) to go, but the real steal is the veggie combo ($8.00), which boasts rice, potatoes, falafels, hummus, and 4 types of salad.

oakhamcafe

Oakham House

When looking for a cheap lunch, why bother leaving campus at all? Located in the Ryerson Student Centre building, Oakham Café offers everything from veggie curry ($5.49) to quinoa burgers ($8.25). Keep an eye on their Twitter feed to be the first to find out about their daily specials!
