It’s that time of year again! Time to trade your costumes and pumpkins in for a Santa Claus hat and some hot chocolate. If you’re like me and have been waiting for the holiday season to start since it last ended this one’s for you! Here are my top five free holiday events happening in Toronto this season.

Toronto Christmas Market

Date: November 16th – December 23rd

The Toronto Christmas market is a must-visit for all Torontonians during the winter holiday season. This market will transport you to a small winter village packed with hot chocolate lovers, Christmas carollers and one of a kind gifts. This iconic Christmas scene is surely one you won’t want to miss. Admission is free until 5 p.m. on weekdays so plan your trip accordingly!

Date: Saturday November 18th

2017 marks the 10th anniversary for Toronto’s Illuminite event so you can be they have something special planned. Head over to Yonge & Dundas Square from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM to get started on the holiday season with the annual tree lighting ceremony. You’ll also have the chance to see magical holiday dance performances, light shows, acrobats and free hot chocolate!

Santa Clause Parade 

Date: November 19th

Santa Clause is coming to town! Grab your friends, family & a lawn chair to claim your spot along the parade route this November. Let your inner child out for the day to watch Santa make his grande entrance, and also get some free candy canes while you’re at it.


Cavalcade of Lights

Date: November 25th

It’s time to deck the halls with Toronto’s annual Cavalcade of Lights at Nathan Phillips Square. Featuring the official lighting of Toronto’s Christmas Tree and live musical performances by some of Canada’s top performers this is an event you won’t want to miss. Did we also mention theres an amazing firework show and ice skating parties on the iconic outdoor rink?

NOVEMBER 29, 2015, TORONTO; The 49th annual Cavalcade of Lights celebration presented by Great Gulf kicked off the holiday season on Saturday night, This holiday tradition at Nathan Phillips Square featured the first illumination of Toronto’s official Christmas Tree, performances by some of Canada’s top musical talent, a spectacular fireworks show and skating parties.

Date: December 1st – 23rd

Toronto’s newest holiday market is located conveniently in Nathan Phillips Square. Featuring a variety of vendors with home made crafts, skating and food, this a perfect spot for Christmas shopping or enjoying a day off. The holiday fair will also feature a festive winter carnival for everyone to enjoy.
