Ryerson Lens: Valentine’s Edition

By: Karishma Karia and Hannah Polinski

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. While people think Valentine’s Day is reserved for couples, February 14 is a day to celebrate love of all kinds! Partners, families, and friends can all enjoy a variety of activities all around the city. Hannah will be having a Valentine’s EXTRAVAGANZA with her best friend, which involves a professional photographer, a comedy show, and a romantic McDonalds dinner. Karishma is looking forward to cinnamon hearts, which are her favourite candies. Together we went around campus to find out what students think would be an ideal Valentine’s Day in Toronto, and here is what they had to say!

Paint Lounge in Markham is fun. It’s this place where they give you a canvas and you just paint, it’s really cute. And they can teach you how to paint as well. It’s really fun.”

Paint Lounge is located in both Toronto and in Markham, making it a good trip from campus or for commuters! Whether you are artistically inclined or not, this is a fun day for all.

“Okay, Valentine’s Day is on a Tuesday this year, right? I’ll be getting tacos on Taco Tuesday! My favourite place is La Carnita! I haven’t been there in a while, but it’s so good. Really, just going to Taco Tuesday anywhere is a good idea.”

Who doesn’t love a good taco? If you’re on campus and are looking for your Taco Tuesday fix, check out Tacos 101, just a short 1 minute walk south from the Engineering Building! Hannah highly recommends their baja fish taco.

“If you’re hanging out with friends that night, going to watch a movie is fun.”

Karishma will be eating cinnamon hearts all day, but if she was to see a movie she would want to see Hidden Figures. There is a Cineplex theatre right at Yonge-Dundas Square for the big-screen feel, or the Carlton Cinema near the Mattamy Athletic Centre for your classic indie hits.

“The Toronto Light Festival at the Distillery District would be super cool. It’s going on until March 12th and I really want to go. It’s almost like the Christmas Market and should be fun.”

“Pizza and Netflix. Blaze Pizza.”

As a vegetarian, Hannah likes to customize her pizzas at Blaze Pizza to include all the veggies she possibly can, along with the various types of cheese.
