Mass Exodus: From Backstage to the Runway

What is Mass Exodus you might be wondering? Well for two of the bloggers from WhyRyerson, Mass Exodus was more than just a show, it was an amazing experience! Here’s Raven and Mady with their Mass exodus 2016 experience.

When I woke up at 3am on April 10th, I couldn’t believe the day had finally come. Mass Exodus 2016 was here. The three day shows and the evening show were held on the “Beach” floor of the Student Learning Centre, which came with its challenges and its perks. As Communications Director, I oversaw the Public Relations & Marketing and Visitor Experience committees. Over the course of the school year, these teams and I worked on getting sponsors, preparing media kits, planning promotional campaigns, managing social media, sending invitations, organizing guest lists, deciding on catering, making sure students were aware of the SLC floor closure, and much more. My team and I spent months planning, preparing, meeting, working, and meeting again to make sure the event was the best one yet. And I truly believe it was. The shows seriously went off without a hitch, and our guests noticed. Both general and VIP attendees were impressed with how easy it was to check in, and how incredible the show was, and that’s all I could have asked for.

4 a.m. came way too early. It was the day of Mass Exodus and I was SUPER excited. This year, I was modelling in the show and I could not wait to showcase the amazing talent of our fashion students here at Ryerson.

Hair and Makeup started at 5 a.m. Yes, A.M. I would have never thought that I would be looking so fresh and flawless before 9 a.m. My designer chose pretty basic makeup, but looking around the room I could not believe my eyes. I have never seen so much talent (or hairspray) in one room before. It was extrodinary.

10am came and it was our time to walk the runway. We got dressed, hurried backstage and the show began. There was music and clapping and everyone was so excited. The runway was long and extremely innovative (and by innovative I mean super easy to fall on), so I had to be suppppperrr careful. But, my time came, I walked, I pouted and I strutted my stuff.

This year’s show was incredible and I can’t wait for next year.
