Greetings from The Girl from Everywhere

Hi everyone!

I’m one of the five amazing Digital Marketing Assistants you’re going to be constantly seeing as the face of WhyRyerson this year! Each one of us has been handpicked due to our special skills, talents and all the stories and experiences we have to share with you.

So let’s get started!

I’m Ankita, also known as Kit, a 3rd year Top 200 and co-op student in Business Management, majoring in Global Management Studies (GMS) and minoring in Marketing Management at the Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM), and I couldn’t be happier to be where I am.

I’ve covered where I am in life right now. Onto the little more complicated topic of ‘where I’m from:’ everywhere.

My parents are originally from India. I was born in the beautiful country named Guyana in South America. We moved to India when I was 3.

Soon after, we moved to Belgium! Being raised in Europe was so exciting! Birthday? Okay, let’s drive to Paris! Parents’ anniversary? Let’s get away to Germany! Long weekend? Rome, we’re on our way!

Unfortunately, we had to say bye to Belgium after a couple years and head back to India. This time around, I was old enough to actually remember my time here, in the country my parents call home. I began to love my time here as well! Indian food is indescribably delicious, and there’s so much history attached to every single building – exploring this country was always a good time!

Our next stop was none other than the gorgeous South Africa! I graduated from the American International School of Johannesburg in 2016! The weather, the natural life, the people, the lifestyle – simply put, I loved absolutely everything there!

Now, here I am, going to school in the heart of Toronto, living two minutes away from campus, thousands of miles from my family. Was it hard getting adjusted in a whole new country all by myself? VERY. Did my years of traveling experience help? EXTREMELY.

I am so thankful to be a part of this university. The TRSM building is my favourite place to be in school–I’m here more than I’m in my apartment. I try to take advantage of all the involvement opportunities this university has to provide. I’m the Vice President of Events for my course union Ryerson Global Management Group (RGMG) and one of the two Social Media Managers for the Ted Rogers Students’ Society (TRSS). As if that wasn’t enough, I am also the Vice President of Events for the George Vari Innovation Convention! That’s right, it’s a conference being hosted by the faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science!

I am constantly being pushed to grow to be the best version of myself here, and I couldn’t have asked for more. As a TRSM Co-op student majoring in GMS, I’m going to be flying off to another country in some other part of this world for one of my work terms!

Oh, and did I mention I’m also going to Venezuela this winter break?? That’s where my family’s moving to in a few weeks 😉 Stay tuned for some sick vlogs from my winter break! The traveling never ends, as it never should!

Keep a look out for my weekly posts to discover just how much Ryerson has to offer, especially to International Business students like myself!
