My Favourite Concert Venues In Toronto

A big part of why I love living in downtown Toronto is the many opportunities I’ve had to see some of my favourite musicians live at the best concert venues around the city. Exploring Toronto beyond the Ryerson campus is an essential part of your university experience. Toronto is a great city with so much to offer, so when you have the chance, make sure you check out shows happening at these special venues! Here’s 4 of the very best places to see a concert in Toronto.

The Danforth Music Hall

This is the venue I’ve been to the most, seeing Toronto natives Born Ruffians as well as two comedy shows, Rob Delaney and Bo Burnham! This is a great location because of the proximity to awesome Greek food and the intimacy of the venue itself. It’s the perfect size for small yet energetic crowds and has a really beautiful design. The Danforth has hosted concerts like Father John Misty, Willow Smith, and the Arkells. I definitely recommend catching some of the many amazing musicians who frequent this venue!

The Drake Hotel Underground

This is probably the tiniest and cutest concert venue I’ve ever been to. Located on Queen Street West, it attracts all the cool kids and the best musicians. I recently saw Baio perform here (the bassist from Vampire Weekend) and it was a blast. While there’s usually smaller indie performers at the Drake, it’s a great place to hit for a night out and always has super cheap tickets!

Lee’s Palace

While I haven’t been to a concert here yet, I’ve been on the lookout for bands performing here for quite a while. It has a great bar above called the Dance Cave (which is literally my favourite place on Earth). It’s super casual, they play amazing music, and you can get in free with your student card! (when you’re of age, of course.) It’s another cozy venue which has seen tons of amazing bands come through.

Molson Amphitheatre

We can’t forget about this classic Toronto venue! The amphitheatre is one of the best places to visit during the warmer months. I have some amazing memories seeing The Fray, Florence and the Machine, and The Foo Fighters here that I’ll never forget. It’s a beautiful spot to see some of the biggest artists and an enjoy a warm summer evening!

And there you have my absolute favourite places to see a concert in Toronto! If you don’t want to miss out on an opportunity to see some of your favourite artists when they come through the city, make sure you download the app “Bands In Town” which alerts you of upcoming shows near you from the music you have on your phone! Until next time!
