Celebrity Encounters in Toronto

There’s no doubt that living in a big city comes with its fair share of perks. For me, one of the coolest things about Ryerson is that its only a short distance from the Entertainment District which means having countless opportunities to experience a little bit of Hollywood excitement!

Since moving to Toronto, I’ve been lucky enough to attend some great premieres at TIFF and see some of my favourite actors. As a big fan of movies and television, I like keeping an eye out for any special events that might be happening in the city, as there’s usually much more going on than people realize.

This past week, I found out on twitter that one of my favourite actors from my absolute favourite television show, Breaking Bad, would be in Toronto for the premiere of his new movie. Yup, Aaron Paul A.K.A. Jesse Pinkman would be greeting fans at the Scotiabank theatre to promote Need For Speed! Once I recovered from a small heart attack, I made plans with a friend to go to the red carpet since the tickets were already sold out. It ended up being one of the best nights I’ve ever had in Toronto. When he appeared on the red carpet, I even shouted my love for him to which he looked right at me and replied “I love you too!”, like the true gentlemen that he is. A girl then gave me a free ticket so I could attend the premiere which also had a Q&A with Aaron and the director at the end.

So if you’re like me and this kind of stuff excites you, remember that there’s almost ALWAYS something going on in Toronto, like premieres, events, conventions, expos, and signings, that can easily be found through social media. TIFF, one of the biggest film festivals in the world, even has premieres right on campus at the Ryerson Theatre! Believe me, there’s nothing better than taking a 2 minute walk to go see stars like Daniel Radcliffe and Tom Hiddleston in the same place you go to school. So keep an eye out! The important thing is to put yourself out there and be open to new experiences because you never know what could happen.
